Postpartum

Postpartum doulas fill a variety of roles, and our support can take place many different ways depending on what your needs are in that specific moment. Common priorities are rest for caregivers, opportunities to shower or eat a hot meal, birth processing, infant education, feeding help, and lots of “is this normal” check ins. We aim to take initiative based on the established goals and routines of your family to fit seamlessly into your home and relieve stress so you can focus on recovery and bonding. Ideally we’d love to feel like the kind of best friend that you aren’t worried if they see you at your messiest (physically or emotionally!) and you don’t feel like you have to host us or entertain us, or feel guilty to accept our help.

Overnight care often places more emphasis on sleep for adults, while still providing a trusted resource for education and encouragement. We will develop a plan together to feed and tend for your baby and communicate regularly to adjust as your family’s needs change. Your overnight doula will arrive ready to get caregivers tucked into bed and handle all baby care during the night. Babies can be fed by bottle or we will support you in chest feeding with minimal sleep interruptions.

Postpartum doulas are there to support the entire family, which means our role can also include practical tasks like cleaning, meal preparation, or laundry. We can offer advice on postpartum recovery, assist with baby wearing, or talk through navigating setting boundaries with well-meaning family members. Overall we are there to provide you with tools, resources, and hands on support while always knowing that YOU are the expert in your own baby.
