ABout Tend

Tend Perinatal Collective was born (pun intended) of three tenured, experienced, and like-minded birth workers seeking a space to continue doing the work we love while being able to make it more sustainable and collaborative. We all trained as birth workers before having children of our own, because we feel strongly about the benefit of having someone with you during your perinatal experience that can offer guidance, a shoulder to lean on, a hand to hold, act as a sounding board, and hold space for the wild transition that comes with growing and raising children.

A big part of why we chose to do this with each other is relationship. In the years we’ve spent time together as colleagues and friends, we’ve offered that to each other - and to each other’s clients - again and again. When you work with one of us you get the benefit of all our shared experience at every part of the process. Our personal community is really special to us, we depend on each other, and we believe that birthing and parenting in community can be a revolutionary act.

The work we do is deeply important, but it can also be heavy. Caring for ourselves helps us show up fully for the families we support. We debrief after births, lean on each other when a birth is especially challenging, and celebrate the beautiful moments together. When you hire one Tend doula you’re backed by the collective 30 years of experience and support of our whole team. We also make space to step off call, take breaks from overnights when we need them and advocate for systems that better support birth workers and the families we serve.
